The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is gearing up to boost its gemstone sector by formalizing it for export, according to news sources. The provincial government is planning to transform the gemstone cluster at Namak Mandi into a cutting-edge Gems Processing & Export Centre.
This decision came to light during a significant meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Peshawar, chaired by Abdul Karim Tordhir, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Commerce and Technical Education. The agenda was to chart out strategies for advancing the gemstone industry.

Key outcomes of the meeting include establishing a state-of-the-art Gems Processing and Export Centre in Peshawar. This center will feature top-notch amenities such as a Certification Lab, International Mail Office, Banking, and Customs services. Additionally, it will facilitate the issuance of necessary permits for foreign investors, streamlining the process.
Within the next four months, this revamped Gems Centre will also host dedicated desks for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran, fostering international collaboration in the gemstone trade. Moreover, plans are in place to organize an annual Gems Show in the province, funded by the Federal Export Development Fund. The Fund’s representative pledged support to equip the proposed center with essential facilities.

Emphasizing the significance of this initiative, the Special Assistant highlighted its potential to drive economic growth by boosting exports and generating employment opportunities. This move is expected to substantially increase revenue while fostering the prosperity of thousands of individuals associated with the gemstone sector.
