Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has issued directives to the deputy commissioners throughout the province to register a force of volunteers in order to combat the novel coronavirus, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the district authorities concerned have sought a list of young people who want to register in the volunteer force. The volunteers will be registered until Tuesday and then, they will be trained and appointed on the union council level.

The volunteer force will spread awareness regarding the coronavirus pandemic and inform people about how to protect themselves and their families from its infection.

City District Government Director-General Riaz said that a large number of young people had started registering themselves for the awareness campaign. Women are also enlisting themselves in the volunteer force which will combat the novel coronavirus, he said.

Previously, the KP government had earmarked PKR 1 billion to procure the necessary equipment and treat patients during the coronavirus outbreak.
