Peshawar: A progress review meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Energy and Power Department – chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan – was told that the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation had doubled its revenue generation through hydropower projects in the last two years, according to a news report published on August 27.

The meeting was further informed that during the fiscal year 2018-19, the organisation generated revenue worth of PKR 1,571.14 million, whereas in the following year, a revenue of PKR 3,458 million was generated through various hydropower projects in the province.
The meeting was also told that new hydropower projects including 17 MegaWatts (MW) Ranolia Hydropower project, 2.60 MW Machai Hydropower Project and the 36.6 MW Dral Khwar Hydropower Project in Swat were completed in last two years. These three projects were developed at a cost of PKR 14 billion and are likely to generate PKR 2 billion annual revenue for KP.

Furthermore, the KP Transmission & Grid Company is all set up and ready to become operational. The meeting was told that a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model has been launched to fast track implementation of the hydropower projects. The CM directed the officials to ensure timely completion of these ongoing hydropower projects so that the public can avail the benefits without further delay.
