Peshawar: Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan on Wednesday requested the federal government to make the Chashma Right Bank Lift Canal Project a part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2020-21 — with the project deemed critical for self-sufficiency in agricultural produce, a news source reported.

The CM made the request during a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) that was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan and was attended by several federal ministers. The Chief Ministers of the other provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu Kashmir were also present during the session.
CM Khan took the opportunity to state that the aforementioned project was equally important for Punjab. He added that after the project’s completion, it would irrigate millions of acres of barren land, and would help resolve the country’s wheat shortage issues.
