Upper Dir: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Tourism Atif Khan recently announced the provincial government’s intention to develop a road infrastructure for Kumrat Valley under the executive’s tourism promotion efforts, a news source reported. He expressed his views on the matter during his one-day visit to Upper Dir on Tuesday.
He said that the construction work will commence soon; adding that the project would cost PKR 5 billion. Previously, the authorities concerned had identified Kumrat as a destination with a lot of development potential.

The minister said that the officials concerned would devise a strategy prior to commencing with the road construction work. Under this initiative, the government would also construction hotels and motels in the area.
Moreover, he said that the government (during the construction phase) would dedicate all its efforts towards preservation of the natural beauty and the environment of the region. Unchecked construction would harm the environment and the promotion of tourism in the country, so the government will not allow it. He added that the government was identifying more places for its tourism development gig.

Khan urged the people of Upper Dir to protect the environment as it was their responsibility as well; advising them against chopping trees in the area. The natural beauty of the area, if maintained, would pull in tourists and be beneficial for the locals.
