Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Industries Abdullah Karim Tordher on Tuesday (October 05) met with a delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) led by President Mohammad Idrees and invited them to invest in provincial Special Economic Zones (SEZs), according to news sources.

Minister Tordhar informed the attendees that the KP government is working to build 13 Economic Zones in the province in the coming months. Of the total planned SEZs, work on seven industrial zones is underway while the work on the remaining is expected to start soon, he revealed. Moreover, the KP minister stated that the province’s business environment is favourable for investment and that the administration has already removed 17 different sorts of taxes to facilitate businesses.

The minister also stated that the government has selected 19 industrial locations around the province for enhanced exports and import substitution. He encouraged Karachi’s business community to invest in gems, gypsum, mines and minerals, hunting arms, cold water fishing, hydropower, fruits and vegetables, organic fruits, and the tea sector. In addition, the minister briefed the delegation regarding the road infrastructure and connectivity projects worth USD 400 million for the movement of goods and promotion of the tourism industry.

During the session, Karachi’s industrialists asked the minister to provide tax holidays of 5 to 10 years with industry-friendly policies and amenities to make it more attractive for industrialists to invest in KP.
