Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan on Monday (October 31) asked concerned departments to take steps to award the mine and mineral sector an industrial status, news sources reported.

CM Mehmood said that elevating the sector to industrial status will improve foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the province, bringing more livelihood opportunities for the locals. He was pressing over a meeting of the Minerals Investment Facilitation Authority (MIFA) for the award of mining leases under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mines and Minerals Act, 2017. The concerned departments informed the meeting about the enhanced benefits of joint ventures, including more revenue generation from fees, greater investor confidence, industrial development, and the creation of jobs. - Development of a mechanism for establishing specific zones for refining minerals to ensure maximum revenue generation.
- Provision of Mineral certification of mined minerals to attract investors and value addition of minerals.
- Completion of eco-friendly crushing zones by the end of the ongoing month

The meeting was also informed of continuing worker welfare development initiatives, including free medical facilities for mining workers. It was also revealed that the government has completed the digitising of the mining department to ensure transparency and track mineral certifications and leases.
