Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Department on Thursday received two PCR machines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) in a bid to increase the province’s coronavirus testing capacity, a news source reported. To this effect, WHO representative Dr Palitha Mahipala donated the machines to the officials concerned.

Dr Mahipala met with KP Health Minister Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra to discuss the province’s response to the pandemic. He ensured WHO’s support for keeping people safe against the virus. Stressing the need for infection-control measures in hospitals, he highlighted that the WHO had helped disinfect hospitals in the province and trained staff in swab collection and managing COVID-19 patients.

Further discussing coronavirus testing capacity, Dr Mahipala stated that testing was significant to identification of virus-positive individuals and their better management. He also visited the Directorate General Health Services offices. He donated 500 personal protective kits, 500 bottles of hand sanitizers, 500 surgical masks, 500 N-95 masks, and 5000 shoe covers to the department.
