Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has instructed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to take over the New Balakot City project and develop it as a tourist resort, according to news sources. Previously, Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) was executing the project.

The said decision was taken by the premier while he presided over a meeting held on the development of New Balakot City, to establish it as the new tourist resort in the hilly area. PM Khan added that to promote tourism and develop new tourist resorts, reputed private investors and being brought on board under the public-private partnership financing model. He ordered federal and provincial administrations to ensure the provision of maximum facilitation to investors in this regard.

Moreover, PM Khan instructed for the irrigated land to be excluded from the project to ensure food security. He was earlier appraised that the feasibility study on a PKR 19.5 billion project for the development of New Balakot City as a tourist hub. The study was executed by the National Engineering Services Pakistan and KPMG.
The administration announced that 63% of the residential plots under 6,753 under the proposed project are reserved for allotment to the local affectees. The remaining 2,480 residential plots, 800 apartments and 575 commercial plots will be auctioned to generate finances for project execution.
