Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to launch a poverty alleviation and welfare programme for the province on the model of the federal government’s recently introduced ‘Ehsaas’ pilot project, a news source reported. This project will address the centre’s concerns pertaining to the duplication of resources (and for the province to finance the initiative out of its own accord).

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar briefed KP CM Mahmood Khan on the welfare scheme during a meeting, which was held in Peshawar on Tuesday.
Explaining the key aspects of the programme, she said that the initiative was designed to cover four pillars: creation of safety nets for the poverty-stricken segments of the society; protection of resources against elite exploitation; creation of new job opportunities, and provision of human capital development.
To facilitate this measure, the authorities concerned have been tasked with the compilation of fresh poverty statistics, she added.
