Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Monday decided to provide financial assistance worth PKR 12,000 (each) to over 100,000 deserving families from its Zakat funds – in a bid to secure their livelihoods during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to news sources.

The government’s task force announced this decision during a meeting held to review the coronavirus spread within the province. The government will also provide an additional PKR 6,000, each, to the same families for the next three months.
Further, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information Ajmal Wazir revealed that the provincial government had decided to offer PKR 12,000 cash assistance in addition to the PKR 12,000 announced for 2.2 million families for four consecutive months under the federal government’s relief package.

The meeting was informed about the various relief steps and coronavirus prevention measures being taken in the province; with the session further discussing the opening of the Torkham border crossing from April 6-9 to aid the return of Afghans stranded in Pakistan.
