Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced its decision to formulate a plan for the rehabilitation of a water supply scheme from Bara River to Peshawar, a news source reported on November 12. The decision was reached during a meeting of the Public Health Engineering and line departments.

According to the details revealed, participants at the sessions also constituted a four-member committee to draft a preliminary study and feasibility plan for the now defunct Bara drinking water scheme. The line department concerned will work in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department on the project.

Earlier, KP Governor Shah Farman had directed the officials concerned to address the issue of river contamination and declining water levels in Peshawar. According to an official statement, the governor had highlighted the importance of the Bara River water supply scheme; further stating that the initiative would prove to be cost effective as it would not require the use of tubewell or any other water pull equipment.
