Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has ordered all deputy commissioners (DCs) to begin digitally compiling land records, and other such information available on the province, using the Geographic Information System (GIS), a news source reported. As per the publication, the DCs have also been assigned the duty to draw geo-coordinates that will help keep illegal occupation and encroachments in check.

The deputy commissioners will collaborate with the Planning and Development Department, specifically with its GIS experts, to identify state land across all districts in the state. In this regard, the Performance Management and Reforms Unit will also extend the necessary technological assistance to help complete the task within 45 days.

Additionally, the secretaries of the mineral and forest departments were directed to launch operations against illegal mining and the timber mafia. The relevant departments were ordered to restart encroachment drives to remove illegal occupants from state land, public roads, pathways, and right of ways — they were also reminded to register cases against any such parties within two months.
