Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government recently notified new housing rules for private residential schemes situated across the province, a news source reported on December 12. Moreover, it directed the deputy commissioners concerned to ensure the implementation of said regulations in all housing projects registered with the authorities concerned.

Under the new housing regulations, the provincial executive has divided private schemes into five categories: Mega, A, B, C, and D. Housing societies occupying more than 500 kanals will be registered under the ‘mega’ category, schemes encompassing area between 200 and 500 kanals will be registered under the ‘A’ category, schemes with area between 100 and 200 kanals will be registered under the ‘B’ category, schemes covering area between 50 and 100 will be listed under the ‘C’ category, while the ‘D’ category will comprise all housing schemes covering up to 50 kanals of area.
Moreover, the provincial government has also set the width and size limit for main roads, streets and domestic plots in the ‘D’ category housing schemes. To this effect, the maximum width of main road and streets in these residential projects shall be 40 and 25 feet, respectively, whereas the maximum size of residential plots will be one kanal.

Private developers shall be required to allot areas for graveyards and garbage disposal. Projects listed under ‘Mega’, ‘A’ and ‘B’ categories shall have to reserve two percent of the total area for cemetery; 5 to 10 percent for commercial area; 10 marla to 2 kanals for garbage collection and grid station. Further, residential plot cuts within these schemes shall have a maximum size of no more than 2 kanals.
