Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced its decision to launch an operation against illegal housing schemes located both within the city and elsewhere in the province — with the provincial government planning on taking sweeping action against the said developments, a news source reported.
Official sources revealed that several illegal housing
schemes had been found in Peshawar. They added that private property developers
had constructed these societies, which would now come under intense scrutiny.
One official stated that many housing schemes in the city had
no official permit for construction. He added that the provincial government
was determined to penalise the developers of such societies.
According to the details shared, all housing scheme developers must obtain relevant permissions and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) before they initiate construction at the project site. They are also required to share all relevant documents pertaining to the housing project. However, officials report that developers of illegal societies don’t follow these rules.
Special Assistant to KP Chief Minister (CM) on Local
Government (LG) Kamran Bangash stated that developers who hadn’t received
official approvals before proceeding with development work would face fines. He
added that the provincial government had dispatched over 115 notices and lodged
80 cases against the offenders at their respective police stations.
A senior city planner also shared his concerns over illegal housing schemes using agricultural land. He added that in case this problem continued, the province might have to face food shortages.
