Peshawar: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) disclosed through a budget document on Wednesday that it has thus far released a total of PKR 246.5 million for the promotion of tourism, uplifting of historical sites, and the construction of sports facilities, a news source reported. The document was released by the KP Ministry of Archaeology, Tourism and Sports.

This amount is less than 10% of the allocated budget for the ministry for the fiscal year 2019-2020 which in total amounts to PKR 9.64 billion. These funds were released as part of the first phase of the development plan for the province to facilitate ongoing projects.
PKR 1.7 million was allocated for the preservation of the historic Kalash valley located in upper Chitral and its unique culture. Another PKR 20 million has been designated for placing AstroTurf in the districts of Swat, Charsadda, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan. Masjid Mahabat Khan is being renovated using PKR 5 million.

KP Tourism Minister Atif Khan announced during a meeting of the Archaeology Department on Tuesday that the World Bank has decided to release PKR 500 million to facilitate the development of eight new archaeology sites in KP.
