Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to extend the under-construction Swat Motorway to the remote scenic valleys of Maidan and Chitral in Swat, a news source reported. KP Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan announced this development while addressing the fifth convocation of the University of Malakand in Chakdara on Thursday.

With the extension of the Swat Motorway, the provincial government plans to make KP more accessible to tourists and traders. The CM said that the authorities concerned would complete the first phase of the project this year. He added that the next phase would include the motorway’s extension to Maidan and Chitral.
According to latest Swat Motorway project updates, the authorities had temporarily opened the expressway during the Eid ul Fitr holidays. The tourists traveling from Islamabad to Swat said that it shortened their journey by two hours.

Addressing the convocation ceremony, the CM said that KP has rich potential in sectors of tourism, agriculture, mines, minerals, and hydropower. He added that the universities must conduct research in these areas to utilize their benefits.
