Peshawar: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to devise a surplus budget for the fiscal year 2019-20 (FY 2019-20), a news source reported. Similar to the previous budget, the upcoming budget will have a surplus of PKR 20 billion to PKR 25 billion. This budget is also expected to be less dependent on the federal government for financial assistance.

KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra revealed this information. He added that that the provincial government had presented a budget of PKR 648 billion for the FY 2018-19. He said that they had taken measures to increase revenue from the provincial government’s own resources; not depending on cash grants from the federal government. He stated that this is why they have decided to present a surplus budget this time.

Jhagra was elected to the provincial assembly for the first time in July last year. He brings with him the advantage of his experience, having worked with various international financial organisations.
