Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced its decision to launch a power infrastructure development project in the province’s tribal districts, a news source reported. As per officials, the provincial executive plans to include this PKR 2 billion uplift scheme in its annual development programme proposal.

Under the proposed initiative, the government will undertake electrification efforts in all the villages of the former FATA region, construct 76 new 11kV feeders as well as rehabilitate 59 11kV feeders. Officials told Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan that this project would cost approximately PKR 2.04 billion; of which PKR 1.43 billion were recently released for the project’s commencement.
In response, the CM said that all work on projects for the provision of electricity to the tribal districts should be expedited. He stated that TESCO had been allocated funds for the upgradation of transmission lines, grids and 11kV feeders in the area. additionally, PKR 419 million had been released for the electrification of 440 villages in all districts of the tribal areas.

In response, the officials said that PKR 2.165 billion out of the PKR 3.093 billion budget for the 10 years development plan had been released to be put to use in the upgradation of power facilities in the region. The CM stated that building capacity for the power infrastructure was of the highest importance in order to materialise development schemes in the area.
