Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has planned to build small and medium dams across the province, a news source reported. The multi-dimensional plan is expected to cost an estimated sum of PKR 9.5 billion.

The KP Irrigation Department has already identified the sites for the construction of the dams. The authority is expected to begin working on the project soon. In addition to the construction of the dams, the said plan would also include schemes for increasing the water supply and building flood protection walls.
From 2013- 2018, as many as eight small and medium dams were constructed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These dams were aimed at helping irrigate thousands of acres of land in the province.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government allocated a sum of PKR 22.19 billion in the Fiscal Year 2019-20 for constructing 19 dams in Rawalpindi district. It allocated the said funds under the Annual Development Programme. Among the 19 dams, the provincial government has also included Dadhocha Dam, as well as several water schemes.
