In November 2018, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had notified the bifurcation of Chitral into two separate districts. At present, Upper Chitral comprises the Mastuj and Torkhow/Mulkhow subdivisions.
Muhammad Yousuf, a lawyer hailing form Mastuj Town, wrote a letter to the provincial chief secretary. He said that the bifurcation is not in line with the wishes of the people.
He argued that Mastuj is a household name and that the name of the main tehsil in the newly created district is also Mastuj. He added that even the literature of the area carries the name of Mastuj.
