Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Sunday approved the construction of two new dams in the province, a news source reported. As per officials, the Jabba and Bara reservoirs, as they are to be named, will be will be constructed in the tribal districts at a cost of PKR 930 million.

For facilitating the development of Bara and Jabba dams, the provincial executive recently allocated PKR 230 million and PKR 700 million respectively. These water schemes will allow locals to conserve water resources in the tribal districts. This water will be used for irrigation purposes in order to bring vast tracts of unproductive land into agricultural use.
The government has plans to construct various small and medium dams to improve the water situation in the province. Further, the government would introduce five megaprojects worth PKR 3,950 million for the conservation of water as well as for making improvements in the irrigation infrastructure in an effort to improve crop yield.

One of these projects pertains to the remodelling of Bara River canal system at a cost of PKR 200 million. Additionally, the government plans to repair small dams in its bid to facilitate water conservation efforts in the province.
