Mingora: Officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Forest Department have announced their decision to increase the province’s forest cover from the current 25% to 30% under the federal government’s ‘10 Billion Tree Tsunami’ project, a news source reported. Malakand division Chief Conservator Niaz Ali Khan expressed his views on the matter during a visit to the Saidu Medical College in Swat.

Khan further stated that the provincial executive had managed to increase its forest cover from 20.3% to 25% under the previous ‘Billion Tree Tsunami’ initiative. Now the plans are to increase that cover up to 30% in the next four years, he added. Khan noted that the province’s forest level stood at 45%.

Deputy Commissioner Lakki Marwat Abdul Haseeb also spoke on the occasion and said that the local administration would carry out a plantation drive in all parts of the Lakki Marwat district. He added that a drive will be launched in the district to sensitise people to keep both urban and rural areas clean and free from pollution.
