Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Sunday said that the tree plantation campaign initiated by his government had helped increased the forest cover of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by four-percent, a news source reported.

He said that the success of this initiative had enabled the government to replicate the tree plantation model across the country. The new countrywide-plantation project is known as the ‘10 Billion Tree Tsunami’ campaign.
The federal government has estimated that the said environmental drive would cost PKR 114.61 billion. Reportedly, fifty-percent of the total funds figure would be borne by the centre, while the provinces will generate the remaining amount.
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) on Climate Change recently approved budgetary proposals worth PKR 16.613 billion for at least eight environmental projects.

Out of the said amount, a sum of PKR 14 billion has been allocated for the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project. This amount would be included in the upcoming fiscal budget for FY2019-20.
