Peshawar: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan announced on Wednesday that the provincial government had been focusing on industrialisation in order to generate revenue and reduce dependency on federal monetary transfers — for the execution of development schemes — according to news sources.

He made this announcement while discussing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s ongoing agenda for development with National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.

The minister revealed that the government was undertaking reforms in all business sectors to attract foreign and local investors. He was particularly enthusiastic about the tourism, mines, minerals and hydel power sectors, and stated that pragmatic steps were underway to facilitate businesses. The minister expressed hope that industrialisation was KP’s chance to become socioeconomically self-reliant.

The Speaker commended the work done so far, and added that the recent inauguration of the Pakistan-Afganistan border at Torkham (which is to remain open 24/7) was another step towards a new era of development for KP.
