Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Tuesday said that it had expedited construction work on seven hydel power projects in the province, a news source reported. According to details revealed, the provincial executive plans to complete work on these projects by the end of this year.

The Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation stated that the said seven projects were under construction in the following districts:
- Swat
- Shangla
- Lower Dir
- Mansehra
- Chitral
- Kurram
Officials revealed that these hydel power projects would generate more than 400 megawatts (MWs) of electricity in the province. They added that the projects would also assist in bringing thousands of acres of barren land under cultivation in the respective districts.

In March, the KP government had announced that it would construct 672 mini hydroelectric power projects during the financial year 2020-21. Officials had revealed that the provincial government had also identified the sites for constructing these projects.
