Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan on Thursday provided his approval to the proposed development of the ‘New Peshawar Old Charm’ initiative, according to news sources. As per officials, the project aims to make aesthetic improvements to the city’s infrastructure in order to highlight Peshawar’s rich history.
The CM sanctioned this project during a meeting at his residence. Provincial Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz, Principal Secretary to the CM Shahab Ali Shah, and other officials concerned were all present at the occasion.
The project stresses on effective implementation of new regulations introduced by the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), the district administration and the municipal bodies. The CM stated that this framework should be replicated in divisional headquarters and major cities of the province – subject to successful implementation in Peshawar.

Under the initiative, the officials concerned would require PKR 7 billion to remove, restore, realign, renovate and repair the city’s infrastructure. The attendees were informed that the plan would be implemented in phases through the major arteries of the Peshawar.

The plan involves the construction of slip roads to eliminate traffic congestion, restoration of qehwa khanas, heritage sites and craft shops, and the installation of history-citing plaques and photo points.
