Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan has approved the merger of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA) with the Excise and Taxation Department to improve its performance and generate more revenue.
The decision was made in a meeting chaired by the chief minister and was attended by Director General (Excise) and relevant officials of the government. The CM said that Excise and Taxation Department will be strengthened by the merger. The merger is to be on a trial basis for six months
The meeting was briefed about performance of Excise and Taxation Department especially tax recovery, licence fee, new laws, punishment, responsibilities, and administrative structure of the excise department after the 18th Amendment of the constitution.
It was also proposed in the meeting that narcotics control should be handled by the excise department but police help will be obtained until the department gets its own trained force in a year.
