Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has informed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission about its ongoing efforts to tackle climate change, including the establishment of a Climate Action Board to address environmental challenges.
According to official documents, the KP government evaluates all development projects through its Climate Change Cell, which is funded by the German government. The cell is currently undergoing restructuring to enhance its effectiveness.

The provincial government told the IMF mission that the Climate Action Board is being created to mitigate the negative environmental impact of projects, claiming it would be the first of its kind in the world. The legislative process for establishing the board has already begun, and it will include officials from various departments dealing with environmental issues.
The Planning Division hosted the meeting with the IMF mission, where representatives from all provincial planning departments discussed project selection and climate impact assessments. The IMF will continue its engagement with the Planning Division and provincial governments for the next three weeks.
Advisor to the KP Chief Minister, Muzzamil Aslam, confirmed that the provincial government had briefed the IMF mission on its climate resilience measures, emphasizing its commitment to sustainable development.
