Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet has provided its approval to another extension in its ongoing province-wide lockdown, extending its validity till April 30; in addition to relaxing certain other implemented anti-corona measures, a news source reported.
The decision was taken during a special meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan at the Civil Secretariat in Peshawar on Wednesday. The attendees also discussed the decision taken by the National Coordination Committee (NCC) regarding the lockdown.

Advisor to the CM on Information Ajmal Wazir revealed that given the economic impact of the lockdown on daily wagers, some exceptions have been allowed despite the lockdown extension.
What are the exemptions under Kyber Pakthunkhwa’s lockdown extension?
- Inter-district movement will remain suspended. Intra-district transport will be partially opened, while private vehicles, rickshaws, and vehicles transporting labourers will be allowed to operate on a daily basis.
- Reopening of construction and allied industries will be open subject to strict implementation of standard operation procedures notified by the government. The sectors include:
- Bricks
- Sand
- Fibreglass
- Building safety materials
- Steel
- Woodwork
- Tiles
- Water supply materials
- Cement
- Hardware and electric shops
- Educational institutions will remain closed.
- All private events will also remain banned.
- All public events and sports will remain banned.

Moreover, the meeting discussed measures to ensure that the lockdown extension is effectively implemented for the remaining time period. Special security and lockdown measures were stressed for Peshawar which has seen a rise in cases recently.
