Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet on Thursday (October 7) approved the proposed KP Land Use and Building Control Authority Act, 2021 to keep a check on illegal construction on agricultural land and unplanned expansion of cities, according to news sources.

Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan chaired a meeting, which was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz, provincial ministers, and administrative secretaries.
According to the sources, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations Kamran Khan Bangash disclosed that this legislation was the first of its kind in the country. It was also mentioned that the proposed legislation will help control the trend of unplanned urbanisation and commercialisation of the cities and protect agricultural land.
Sharing more details about the legislation, it was mentioned that the law will apply to all types of constructions. Also, it will inform the property builders about the purpose of the land. Under this legislation, building control authorities will be set up and it will help in master planning and land use of all the districts. Moreover, he went on to say that this bill will put an end to the unplanned expansion and will beautify the cities.

CM’s aide Kamran Khan mentioned that the CM has directed the officials concerned to present master plans for six cities in the first meeting of the KP building control authority. CM Mahmood Khan ordered the completion of master planning for 20 districts by December 2022. Special Assistant to CM Bangash revealed that the cabinet, in principle, approved the Public Properties Amendment Act, 2021.
