Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is planning to establish a burn accident prevention authority to ensure the installation of proper mechanisms to put out fires and protection of people in private and public buildings, according to news published in the national dailies on August 8.

As per the details, the government is in the process of making legislation through which an authority will be set up and it will be mandatory for the building owners to install fire extinguishers and make proper arrangements for the safe exit of people in case of a fire incident. The Director of Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre at Hayatabad Medical Complex informed that three meetings have been held and members of the provincial assembly along with the health department are keen to pass the law for the safety of people.

The director went on to say that the authority will cover all the aspects related to fire outbursts. He added that under the law, the owners of the plazas, markets, and private and public buildings will be mandated to have smoke detectors and safe exits for people in case of a fire outbreak.
