Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan has approved the establishment of Shangla Development Authority (SDA) to spearhead the modern development of the tourist destination, news sources reported on October 3.

The news was shared by Provincial Minister for Labour and Parliamentary Affairs Shaukat Yousafzai on Sunday (October 2). He stated that the establishment of SDA will be an essential step toward the Shangla district’s modern and sustainable development. He added that the authority will be in charge of launching the development of Shangla University, providing clean drinking water to inhabitants, approving Rescue 1122, and upgrading elementary, middle, and high schools as well as medical facilities in the area. Furthermore, the authority will be able to oversee the area’s tourism business, generating revenue and jobs for the residents.

It is worth noting that KP is one of the provinces that is fast developing as a result of its infrastructure-oriented initiatives. Under the KP City Development Project, the KP government has also signed a number of agreements with lenders and international financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank (WB) for the development of Smart cities. The banks would provide USD 1 billion to the KP government for the construction of smart infrastructure.
