Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved the construction of the 365-kilometer Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Monday.
According to an official statement, the cabinet directed the finance department to arrange funds for the land acquisition required for the project. This motorway is expected to enhance connectivity and boost economic activity across the province.

In addition to approving the motorway, the cabinet addressed several other key development initiatives. A grant of PKR 300 million was approved for the establishment of a medical and dental college at the Pakistan-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Haripur, with funds to be disbursed in two tranches over two financial years.
To promote tourism, the cabinet approved the Mezban Project, which will provide community-based accommodation facilities in key tourist destinations, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, and Mansehra. The project, in partnership with the Bank of Khyber, will offer loans of up to PKR 3 million to individuals to improve tourist accommodations.

The cabinet also approved measures to make the Dera Ismail Khan Girls’ Cadet College functional, extending the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Education and Training Institutions Ordinance, 1971, to the college. Additionally, PKR 300 million was allocated for the institution.
Another significant decision was the establishment of the Water and Sanitation Services Company in Haripur, with a supplementary grant of PKR 250 million allocated for the upcoming budget to ensure its operations.
