Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan on Sunday (December 4) announced infrastructure improvement projects worth PKR 11 billion for the Abbottabad city under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP), news sources reported.

The three projects include the restoration of the water supply system, the establishment of a new water treatment plant, Sherwan Adventure Family Park and Cricket Ground, and the uplifting of the old Bazar in Abbottabad city. Later in a meeting with the cabinet members, CM Khan said that the KPCIP is an important initiative for public welfare and has directed the relevant authorities to ensure physical progress on various packages under the project as per stipulated timelines. It was informed that the project has so far been awarded PKR 97 billion for the provision of civic facilities including the provision of clean drinking water, the establishment of green areas and other facilities in the five divisional headquarters of KP.

It was also informed that the government has signed agreements for the establishment of water supply systems in Kohat and Peshawar at a cost of PKR 7.5 billion, a sewerage treatment plant in Mardan at a cost of PKR 8.3 billion, and water supply network projects in Mingora at an estimated cost of PKR 20 billion.

It is vital to note that the KPCIP was launched in collaboration with global lenders and institutions such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to offer basic healthcare and municipal services. The project encompasses the province’s five divisions as well as small and large cities.
