Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Tuesday decided to set up 10 economic zones and 19 small industrial estates in the next 10 years along with two special economic zones in 5 years under the industrial policy 2020, according to news sources.

It was decided during a meeting presided over by KP Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan to declare small industrial estates in Dera Ismail (DI) Khan, Dara Adamkhel, Abbottabad, Bannu, Mardan, and Khyber as special economic zones.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Industries Abdul Karim, Secretary Energy & Power Zubair Khan, Secretary Industries Humayun Khan, Chief Executive Officer Board of Investment and Trade Hassan Daud, Additional Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
Furthermore, the meeting approved the action plan to implement the Industrial Policy 2020, as well as the formation of a 15-member oversight and implementation committee. According to reports, the committee would be led by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Industries Abdul Karim, who will also oversee the execution of industrial policy.
According to reports, the new policy’s steps are intended to revitalise the province’s ailing industries. It was also stated that the industrial units will be provided with utilities without interruption.
The new economic zones would be established in Ghazi, Swat, Chitral, Buner, and Daraban, among other places. Furthermore, it has been reported that sector-specific economic zones would be established in various districts around the province. Aside from that, the new industrial policy will include the construction of approach roads to industrial units, the development of infrastructure, and efficient waste management.
Credit incentives will be awarded to encourage both new and existing businesses. In Dara Adamkhel, an advanced training centre for the promotion of the cottage industry is being established. CM Mahmood Khan has ordered that no-objection certificates (NOCs) be issued as soon as possible to avoid needless delays in the construction of industrial units.

Several economic zones, including Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Nowshera Economic Zone, Jalozai Economic Zone, Dera Ismail Khan Economic Zone, and Mohmand Economic Zone(Marble City) have previously been established .
