Islamabad: Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has plans to invest USD 8 million in Pakistan for development projects pertaining to different sectors including transportation, hydropower, and agriculture, according to a news published on Wednesday (April 6).

The spokesperson of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea (ROK) disclosed that KOICA is, currently, implementing four projects, which are at different stages. She went on to say that both the countries were working on several projects in the business, smartphones, hydropower, confectionery production, automobile, and transportation sectors.
It was highlighted that Korea Programme on International Agriculture (KOPIA)-Pakistan Centre was launched by the Rural Development Administration of the ROK Administrator Taewoong Hur in August last year. The spokesperson informed that the technical cooperation projects include chilli production, development of production technology of major fodder crops, self-sufficiency of virus-free potato seed multiplication by aeroponic technique, and more.

Reportedly, the Korean government is helping Pakistan to address the climate change crisis by donating 10,000 trees for the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Initiative. Both the governments also cooperated on projects in the education sector. The spokesperson notified that 1,500 Pakistani students were studying in Korea in graduate and undergraduate programs. Additionally, the PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and Chungbuk National University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation on the full spectrum of mutual interests.
