Karachi: City Administrator Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Sunday revealed the government’s intent to develop the Korangi 5000 road and nullah under the recently-introduced Karachi uplift package, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a luncheon hosted by the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA). PTA Chairman Abdus Salam, Vice Chairman Tariq Mehmood, former chairman Gulzar Feroz, and Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) former president Danish Khan were all present at the occasion.
The Karachi administrator stated that the government intended to establish a modern treatment plant for the leather industry; adding that the treated water would be used for plantation purposes. He further requested the institutions concerned to extend their cooperation to the city government with regard to the construction of the Korangi road.

On his part, PTA Chairman Abdul Salam stated that about 175 industries were situated in the area; adding that the residents of Bilal Colony and Shareefabad were seen to resort to open dumping of waste materials. He further stated that his organization would cooperate with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on the matter.
