As per the sources, this signal-free corridor seeks to reduce the travel time between Islamabad and Rawalpindi from one hour to 10-15 minutes. A senior official stated that due to the traffic congestion on Peshawar Road, the RDA has extended the route of the corridor project to Motorway Chowk. Reportedly, the project was first initiated in 2017 by the Punjab government to facilitate citizens.

The sources revealed that the feasibility study will be completed in six months and afterwards a consultant will be engaged by the RDA to start work on the project. The signal-free corridor will have one flyover, five underpasses and U-turns at various points. It is estimated to cost PKR 20 billion while PKR 80 million will be spent on feasibility study.
Reportedly, the project will include remodelling work on Kutchery Chowk as well. After the completion of the said two projects, the traffic congestion on Peshawar Road, old Airport Road, and G.T. Road is expected to ease.
