Karachi: Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed on Thursday directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to formulate a report containing the number of shops ‘built against the original plan’, according to a news report published on January 8.

Ahmed remarked that illegal establishments/shops at KMC Markets will be razed and action will be taken against department officials who provided their approval to these constructions. He issued instructions in this regard while visiting the Liaquatabad Super Market, accompanied by the State Department officials.

Additionally, the administrator highlighted that tenant shopkeepers of Lee Market, Express Market, Pakistan Chowk and Super Market are paying PKR 2,000 each month for rent which is nominal and KMC is suffering from financial strain. He called for formulation of a committee to decide the rent of KMC Market shops as per the market value.
