Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has started to list commercialised residential properties, a news source reported. The civic body took the decision in a high-level meeting attended by KMC officials on Monday; following a similar decision taken by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
A source present at the meeting informed that Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has requested a report on the original shape and size of the land. He has directed the departments of land, sports, recreation, culture, Kachi Abadis, and Orangi Town for its preparation.

KMC has begun these efforts in pursuance of the court orders issued on January 22. The Supreme Court (SC) had directed to reclaim residential land under commercial use in Karachi.
Department heads have been instructed to submit reports regarding all KMC land falling within their jurisdictions.
Previously, KMC had assigned its land in the form of amenity and welfare plots in several parts of Karachi. Now, the departmental heads will issue notices to the building owners and tenants of these plots after the finalisation of the report.

After this process, KMC will take action against the violators identified.
