Karachi: Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has announced a series of relief measures for the tenants of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Market in a bid to provide facilitation amid the economic crunch caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a news source reported.

To this effect, he stated that tenants could pay their rents for April and May in instalments over the next four months. He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with a delegation of the local traders community – led by All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Chairman Atiq Meer.
The mayor added that there are 600,000 shops in Karachi and millions of people have their jobs affiliated with these outlets. He opined that different markets could be opened on specific days in line with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) announced by the government.

The mayor also asked the traders to appoint a point person for each market who will ensure that all precautionary measures are followed by the shopkeepers and the visitors.
