Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is exploring Turkish partners to relaunch the tram service in Karachi and Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shallwani is currently in Turkey to review the functioning of the tram services before they can be introduced in the metropolis – a news source reported on November 12.

KMC is planning to introduce a Turkish model of tram service on Public Private Partnership (PPP) Basis in order to boost the transport system in the largest city of the country. The idea had previously been discussed in a meeting with Consul General of Turkey. They had also discussed the idea of Turkish companies running the service as it is being provided in a number of cities of Turkey successfully.

Shallwani is also meeting with officials and representatives of the tram service companies in Turkey to discuss possibilities and arrangements for the project.
