Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Monday announced its decision to defer the rent payments for 7,500 shops in 43 markets under its jurisdiction, a news source reported. It further stated that it will charge the deferred rent in four monthly instalments.

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar revealed this decision while talking to a delegation of the All City Tajir Ittehad. He said that the KMC generated PKR 80 million annually from rents received from these shops. He added that it spent this revenue on renovating and uplifting the markets.
In response to the deferment of the rents from the shops, the delegation’s representatives extended their appreciation to the mayor. They also hailed the decision of the KMC to collect the rent in instalments.

Akhtar also urged the Sindh government to announce a package for daily wagers in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown in the province. He said that these individuals financial challenges due to lack of business.
