Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Thursday removed several illegal structures during the anti-encroachment drive it conducted in three districts within the city, a news source reported. This drive was initiated on the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) and was coordinated by the officials of the anti-encroachments department, who targeted the south, east, and west districts of the city, in this regard.

The officials concerned revealed that they removed several illegal structures including food stalls, animal cages, patharas, cabins, sunshades, and grills. They added that they had also demolished concrete walls and other constructions blocking the pavements and roads.
According to sources, the authorities concerned also arrested two people who resisted the efforts being made by the anti-encroachment officials.

Previously, town planning and architectural experts had proposed the development of a 100-year master plan for Karachi in order to transform the city. They had particularly stressed on the establishment of an efficient public transport system. In order to achieve this goal, the provincial government plans to develop the master plan in consultation with the members of the civil society.
