Gilgit: The Karakoram Highway was blocked at multiple points due to mudslides on Sunday, August 18, after severe flash floods significantly disrupted Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), as reported on August 19.

According to the news details, the KKH, a vital corridor linking Gilgit to Khunjerab, is impassable due to mudslides affecting key areas such as Jaglot in Gilgit and Shishkat village in Hunza. Thousands of passengers, including both local and international tourists, have been stranded due to the road closures. In addition, the Gilgit-Shandur road has been blocked by floodwaters, and the Gilgit-Ghizer road has also suffered disruptions as local nullahs overflowed in the Ghizer district. This flooding has damaged over two dozen houses and partially affected three dozen more, with bridges, roads, water supply channels, and electricity systems also impacted.

The floods have also affected other areas, including Aliabad, Haiderabad, Shigar, and Nagar. Despite the severity of the situation, there has been no official statement from the government regarding the full extent of the damage, and the Director General of the GB Disaster Management Authority has been unavailable for comment.
