Lahore: Kiln Owners Association Secretary General Meher Abdul Haq has announced that brick kilns in central and southern Punjab will remain shut in Ramzan owing to the dip in sales and increased production cost, according to news published on March 21.

It was highlighted that the kilns in southern and central Punjab will resume operations after Eid. The association admitted that the said decision will affect the construction sector due to the dwindling supply. However, the kiln owners have cited price hikes of coals, petroleum products, transportation and reduced sales to be the reason behind the decision.

Kiln Owners Association Secretary General Meher Abdul Haq stated the brick kiln industry is undergoing a recessive period. He revealed that hundreds of kilns have shut their operations and those still open are selling products at reduced prices. It was also highlighted that kilns in upper Punjab will continue working as they had remained closed in the winter season.
