Bahawalpur: The Environment Protection Department has taken notice of the violation of environmental rules by brick kiln owners responsible for causing smog across the Bahawalpur district, according to media reports published in the leading newspaper on April 29.

As per the details, the department has booked 42 owners of brick kilns in Bahawalpur and imposed PKR 100,000 fine on them for breaking the rules. According to an official of the Environment Department Waheed Murad Lashari, action has been taken against the owners who violated the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the zigzag technology.

Moreover, it was revealed that the department has carried out various raids throughout the district and registered cases against 42 brick kiln owners in different cities including Chani Goth, Musafir Khana, Saddar, Abbasnagar, Ahmedpur East, Khairpur Tamiwali, Samma Satta, Nowshehra Jadid, and others. Reportedly, a fine of PKR 100,000 was recovered from the owners with a warning to be prosecuted in the courts if they failed to follow the SOPs of zigzag technology.
