Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab received a briefing on the progress of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line corridor on University Road, according to the news published in the leading newspaper on December 13.

As per the details, a meeting was held with a 15-member delegation from Asian Development Bank (ADB). The meeting discussed various aspects of the ongoing project and emphasized the significance of expeditiously completing the project, describing it as a crucial commuter project.
Representatives from the ADP, including Trans Coordinator Aanvel Benary, Investment Specialist Yaxin Yan, and Urban Development Specialist Ahsan Parado, joined officials from Trans Karachi, such as General Manager Pir Sajjad and Shumila Mohsin attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the ADP delegation delivered a digital presentation on the Red Line (BRT) project, revealing a joint investment of USD 503.2 million and a projected daily capacity for 329,000 passengers. The Red BRT Line aims to offer modern travel facilities, including high-quality stations, two types of street lights for pedestrians and traffic, pedestrian ways, and vehicle parking in line with international norms. Revenue generation through advertising is also part of the plan, with advertisements strategically placed at Red Line Stations and between streetlight poles.
The comprehensive Red Line project encompasses the construction of a 54-acre Bagh-e-Karachi Park on Rashid Minhas Road, replacing the former Aladin Park site. Additionally, a 16.2-acre land will host the construction of a Bus depot, and a biogas plant is set to be installed.

Mayor Karachi urged the adoption of all necessary measures to ensure the Red Line (BRT) project’s completion on University Road before the designated 2026 timeline. He emphasized the importance of directing the contractor to maintain a smooth flow of traffic on University Road during construction and implementing motorable alternative routes to minimize inconvenience for citizens. Mayor Karachi also called for an acceleration of work on the Bagh-e-Karachi construction and the biogas project.
