The newly-inaugurated system will monitor and prevent illegal property transfers by maintaining a digital record of the owners.

Reportedly, Dr Asim said that the biometric property verification method is essential and that it should be made available at other registry offices as well. According to a press release published by Karachi Central District, the system would offer information on all property owners who have registered with the registrar’s office. Biometric technology will be used to access the information stored, preventing cases of people selling or registering someone else’s property in their name.

It is important to mention that the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has already introduced a digital file management system called the ‘File Movement Management System’ to expedite land-related matters in the city. Under the already working KDA system, the file first goes to the Land Department. After its verification, the IT Department then stores it electronically, and it then enters the central diary in the Recovery Department. Finally, the file reaches the Record Room for verification of dues, followed by the issuance of an automated payslip against it.
